Renaissance Tudor Jewelry DetailsOn this page are the details of one of the styles of our renaissance jewels. Here you can see the jewelry up close. This detail is of a necklace or carcanet. While there is only one piece for the moment we are planing on adding more in the near future.
This particular piece is made of pewter and the details of the casting easily seen due to the oxidation. This oxidation is meant to represent the niello technique, which was first developed in the mid 15 century in Florence. Niello is a mixture of metals, enamel, lead and sulphur. It was used to add high contrast to the details of the jeweler's work, and greatly increased the jewelry's ornamentation. The jewels used in this case are fresh water pearls and cornelian. The metal can be plated in very thick layer of gold and all the jewels can be interchanged as the client desires. Please feel free to ask us how we can make a necklace, carncanet, girdle, collar or chain to your specifications. |
