The Queen's Inquisitor

Sir Gregory And Lady Meridith Wed!

Sir Gregory Knight Of The Garter, son of Sir Glibert Talbot and Grandson of Gilbert Talbot High Sherif of Worcestershire of The Shrewsbury took Lady Meridith daughter of James Blount and sister of Charles Blount, 8th Lord Of Montjoy were married!

A scandal to be certain ensued at court when news of this unsanctioned marriage was heard by HRM Queen Elizabeth. Our good Queen having recently executed Lady Meridith's brother Sir Christopher Blount for High Treason was not at all pleased about this recent turn of events. With Blount and Essex having recently failed their attempt to seize the Court, and take the Queen into power, HRM was no longer looking favorably upon this match.

Lady Meridith in an effort to save the reputation of the Talbot family told Sir Gregory that she would no longer marry him . Scandal having put her family name on the lips of everyone in England would touch his name. Their match which had been long arranged, had become one of love, both of them sharing a great fondness for the lands and people of Worcestershire.

Sir Gregory quoted as saying "I'll have none of that woman. You will be my bride". Stormed out of her family home in a rage. He then rode off to Lady Meridith's brother Charles Bount, 1st Earl Of Devonshire and 8th Lord of Montjoy and arranged for the marriage to take place on his Devonshire estate. Gregory Talbot and Charles Blount having accompanied the 2nd Earl Of Essex and Sir Walter Raleigh on an expedition in the Azores had become fast friends, Un-named sources claim that the love between Sir Gregory and the Lady Meridith had blossomed as a result of the friendship between Talbout and Blount during several dinners given in Raleigh's honor. "The match could have remained another simple arranged marriage, with Sir Gregory simply buying his way out of the marriage contract after such a scandal, but it is obvious when you see him with Lady Meridith that there is a great love there, says one source in Devonshire.

Lady Meridith, knowing that her brother was back from Brittany received an invitation from him to visit. She was unaware that Sir Gregory had planned the entire wedding which was to begin the day after she arrived. Charles Blount having spent much money to bribe all the servants to keep quite apparently did not spend quite enough. Lady Meridith, found out just before the surprise ceremony was to begin. "You do not want to see Our Lady this angry!" said one insider, "She is always very calm and generous by nature, but she loves this man so much you could tell, she would have no part in ruining his life. Everything that was breakable was thrown.". "Eventually Blount calmed her down so that she would listen to Sir Gregory's plea of love".

The marriage took place though we have no details of what was said between the two there are a few pictures taken with the "castlecam". After the wedding there were great festivities. A red cake was served with much feasting and dancing. And the couple retired to their chambers.

Queen Elizabeth having heard of the wedding and not feeling very soft of heart towards the Blounts just at the moment herself, was reported to go into a rage, even going so far as to call Lady Meridith an "Over plucked hen responsible for disgracing the life of an obviously rabid cock." However HRM seems to calm down when Lady Meridith's family ceded the rights to some lands in Devonshire and Sir Gregory's family gave some lands from Shrewsbury and the Crown gave Her blessing.
