More Renaissance Gown InformationThere is a preference for pearls on renaissance court gowns. They were widely used in this period and Queen Elizabeth herself had quite a love of them. It is rumored that she refused to dine with an ambassador, until the one small pearl, that was missing from the back of her gown was replaced. This was on a gown with hundreds upon hundreds of pearls. Another reason we prefer fresh water pearls is their shape. They are not perfectly round, which is typical of the pearls sewn on the gowns, fore-panels and sleeves of the period... And we just love looking and touching them! We also love the use of jewelry on gowns such as ouches made of pearls, cornelian, onyx and lapis. But we must admit our favorite are pearls! Although we would never turn down diamonds! |
