Silver Pewter Tudor Renaissance Girdle Belt Detailed View

In this photograph you should be able to see the great detail work of the jewerly presented. The girdle is made of pewter and finished with a niello type finish that was very popular in period. The jewels used are genuine fresh water pearls and carenlian. All girdles are custom made, so that the owner can pick out the gems and metal finishes that best suit their needs. Other options are the closure for the waist, which can be either a metal clasp or ribbon are also individual choices. In this instance we have used a velvet ribbon.

Niello is a darkening agent used on silver to bring out a contrast in the details. We use it on pewter as it is less expensive to our clients than pure silver, and requires little to no effort to keep the shine, leaving a finish that was much sought after in period Here one can see the fine details and craftmanship we are offering. All pieces are linked with two jumprings both for security and for asthetic purposes. We've worked hard to provide designs that are oth period correct and beautifuly detailed. The use of the double pearl pieces was a very popular style across many countries, can be seen in numerous portraits.

In early Tudor times the long chain dropping down from the waist was the style, later on during the Elizabethan period, the long chain was removed. Perhpas jewelry styles simply changes like other fashions, or perhpas the long chain was seen as being too much like a rosary for the Prodestants. Either way, the fashion did alter. This girdle can be made up to give you the option of either choice. Or one could have the belt made so that the long chain is removable and could also be worn as a matching necklace.

This girdle would make a wonderful addition to any court clothing, and would be a wonderful piece of jewerly to wear with a wedding gown. Perfect for wear at an SCA event, this girdle is easily documented. Please feel free to contact us for pricing and options, we love to hear from one and all.
