![]() Elizabethan Girdle Close View |
Renaissance Jewelry Elizabethan Girdle Full CloseShown above is a close view of our collar or chain. It should help you to see the details of the work that went into fashioning this jewerly. This particular piece of jewelry is large enough to wear as a chain as shown in the picture, and is perfectly suited for Lord or Lady. This versitile lininkg patter is very closely associated wth the renaissance period. The styling is one of the most popular for both Tudor and Elizabethan nobles. As a necklace it can be shortened to about twenty inches, or choker sized depending on the client's wishes. The renaissance Tudor style necklace is made of pewter to keep its weight light. In this above example, the pewter is gilded very heavily in 22K gold. All pieces are available in both a pewter finish and gilded gold. The jewels used in the example above are genuine fresh water pearls, and an Elizabethan favorite, onyx. Many combinations of jewels are possible. We tend to use quite a few semi precious stones but synthetics are also options. Each link is about one and a half inches long. There are two jump rings used to secure each link to the other. This is done to make certain your jewelry does not fall apart. While the chain is not meant to be a reproduction of a specific piece of jewelry, it is made in the style and manner of Tudor jewels of it's time. This piece of renaissance jewelry can easily be made into a matching set with a carnacet or choker and a matching longer necklace as seen in may renaissance period portraits. The link pattern used here can easily be made into a girdle with a drop of the same link pattern replacing the pendant. An example can be found on our main jewelry page. Or for a later period Elizabethan look the link pattern can be made ito a jeweled girdle belt with out a drop. When wearing as a collar there are no claps needed. However when wearing as a necklace or choker there are several options available such as a regular clasp or a more period approach which would be velvet ribbon that ties in the back. |
