Couched Renaissance Silk Brocade Gown DetailsThe outside of the bodice for this renaissance gown is made of black and bronze silk brocade, with a pattern of flowers, men and other geometric shapes. The neckline has a curved front. Neckline and waist are trimmed with tabed black velvet. Lined in black cotton there are ten bones in the front and four in the back, eliminating the need for a separate corset in order to achieve the correct look for the time period. The bodice is couched in copper Japan thread. We used two threads together to obtain some width. The pattern is adopted from one of Henry VIII's bible covers. The back closure laces up the back grommets that are couched with black thread. There is a 6" modesty panel to accommodate changing sizes. SLEEVES The sleeves renaissance gown are made of black velvet and are beaded with fresh water pearls. The sleeves of the are further lined in black linen and attach to the bodice using small hidden loops and are laced black grosgrain ribbon, giving the wearer of this gown the option of only wearing the great sleeves on hot days. OVERSKIRT The silk brocade overskirt is hand cartridge pleated into the waist band, with a circumference of about 160". It is couched in the same manner as the bodice. UNDERSKIRT The underskirt is faked with black linen as proper for an Elizabethan gowns underskirt. The fore-panel is made of black cotton velevet.
