Gold Silk Bias Cut Renaissance Sleeves

Many renaissance sleeves were made to be interchangeable with the gowns and doublets they were worn with. Often nobles had separate sleeves for special occasions.
These sleeves are made from gold dupioni silk cut on the bias. The sleeves are trimmed in black gimp, interlined with white silk, and lined with black cotton.
The reason for the bias cut is that it gives the sleeves a bit of give which makes the fit better on the arm. The bias cut also helps to reveal the white interlining for an extra dramatic appearance.
This particular style came from Spain and was widely adopted by other European countries and England.
