Black Silk Spanish Renaissance Sleeves

Many renaissance sleeves were made to be interchangeable with the gowns and doublets they were worn with. Often nobles had separate sleeves for special occasions. This particular style is Spanish in origin and was widely adopted by other European countries and England. Often worn as undersleeves with gowns that had great sleeves, this sleeves style was very popular and often worn on it's own. The same technique was also used on men's doublets and sleeves for formal court dress

The sleeves pictured here are made from black dupioni silk cut on the bias. The sleeves are trimmed in sliver metal, interlined with white silk, and lined with black cotton.
The reason for the bias cut is that it gives the sleeves a bit of give which makes the fit better on the arm. The bias cut also helps to reveal the white interlining for a dramatic appearance.
If you would like a custom matching forepanel to go along with these sleeves please email me.
