Renaissance Dress DetailsThe outside of the bodice made of a Celtic Cross brocade bee pattern in deep reds, gold and a brighter pinkish red. Lined in black cotton there are ten bones in the front and four in the back, eliminating the need for a separate corset in order to achieve the correct look for the time period. The bodice is trimmed with black onyx beads, with the neck line and lower edges piped in black. The back closure laces up the back with a special system that is hidden from view by more of the trim. Since we do not all have a Lady's Maid to sew us into the bodice, I use this system so that if a grommet, or button hole tears, the entire bodice is not ruined as is typical of most bodices. This bodice is made to last. There is a 6" modesty panel to accommodate changing sizes. SLEEVES The sleeves are made of two layers of silk. The top layer is a black silk chiffon which is stamped and embroidered in gold. Inside each diamond shape are circles of gold embroidery with a black bead sewn inside. The second layer is a bright red dupioni silk. Because the top layer is transparent, the fabric looks somewhat iridescent and the black takes on a deep burgundy that matches the colouring of the outer gown. The sleeves are further lined in black cotton and attach to the bodice using small hidden loops and are laced black grosgrain ribbon, giving the wearer of this gown the option of only wearing the great sleeves on hot days. PARTLET The sleeveless partlet is made from the same black silk chiffon fabric used for the sleeves and fore-panel. To give the gown a bit of excitement the chiffon is not lined with the red silk and so is slightly transparent. The partlet is entirely handmade. The collar is interlined with black grosgrain ribbon to give it a bit of support and it closes with two hooks and eyes sewn on the interior of the neck. OVERSKIRT The overskirt is hand cartridge pleated into the waist band, with a circumference of about 160". This will not look skimpy around your hoop. It is trimmed in the same trim as the bodice. The size is adjustable in the front with hook and eyes. UNDERSKIRT The underskirt is made of black lining fabric, that is slippery so that it slides easily over your hoop. The fore-panel is made from the same two layers of silk as the sleeves are. This was done to give further substance to the fore-panel so that the boning in the hoops does not show through. (A proper lady does not show her bones) It has a no-roll elastic waist band for comfort SIZING Waist is fully closed at 28" with a chest measurement of aprox. 34"(You would want to be a couple of inches larger for the full "fluff" effect). The 6 " modesty panel allows for additional room. Waist on the overskirt and underskirt are adjustable in proportion to the bodice size. Please remember to add room for any underpinnings such as a chemise or corset to the measurements. Gown will be shipped unhemmed so that you can have it fit correctly over your own farthingale and bumroll should you be wearing them. Depending on your height you may have enough fabric for a small train in the back. CARE Gown must be dry cleaned and I like to scotch guard mine. (Makes Faire dust easier to shake out) Please feel free to email with any questions you may have. stimpzilla@stimpzillasumptuarylaw.com |
