Ivory And Gold Renaissance Gown Dress Details

BODICE

The outside of the bodice made of an ivory and gold brocade. This fabric is mostly cotton in content. Lined in black cotton there are ten bones in the front and four in the back, eliminating the need for a separate corset in order to achieve the correct look for the time period. The the neck line and lower edges piped in gold.

The back closure laces up the back using gold grommets. Since we do not all have a Lady's Maid to sew us into the bodice, I use this system so that if a grommet, or button hole tears, the entire bodice is not ruined as is typical of most bodices. This bodice is made to last. There is a 6" modesty panel to accommodate changing sizes.

SLEEVES

The sleeves are made of honey gold dupioni silk. The cuffs have gold piping and there are faux pearls couched around the edges. The sleeves are lined in white cotton and attach to the bodice using small hidden loops and are laced with gold cording, giving the wearer of this gown the option of only wearing the sleeves on hot days.

OVERSKIRT

All stitching on the overskirt was done by hand not machine. The overskirt is entirely hand cartridge pleated into the waist band, with a circumference of about 160". This will not look skimpy around your hoop. The size is adjustable in the front with hook and eyes.

UNDERSKIRT

The underskirt is made of lining fabric, that is slippery so that it slides easily over your hoop. The fore-panel is made from the same honey gold silk as the sleeves are. The forepanel is backed with white cotton. This was done to give further substance to the fore-panel so that the boning in the hoops does not show through. (A proper lady does not show her bones) It has a no-roll elastic waist band for comfort

SIZING

Waist is fully closed at 30" and will easily accomodate up to a 35" waist do to the modesty pannel. Chest measurement of aprox. 36"(You would want to be a couple of inches larger for the full "fluff" effect) and can acomodate a generous 41" or so inches. The 6 " modesty panel can allow for additional room. Please note that the model is a less endowed creature than the Lady who is intended to wear this gown.

Waist on the overskirt and underskirt are adjustable in proportion to the bodice size.

Please remember to add room for any underpinnings such as a chemise or corset to the measurements.

Gown will be shipped unhemmed so that you can have it fit correctly over your own farthingale and bumroll should you be wearing them. Depending on your height you may have enough fabric for a small train in the back.
