Renaissance SCA Velvet Gown Details

The bodice and overskirt of this renaissance gown are made of black cotton velveteen. This is a correct fabric for the time and generally agreed upon by the SCA as a proper period fabric. Easy to care for and quite comfortable, this dress is a deep luxurious black it can take the punishment of the dust and mud at a renaissance faire. The bodice is trimmed in black and gold ribbon jacquard. All edges are piped in black for a finished appearance and for strength.

The great sleeves are made of the same velveteen and are lined in black peau de soie. They are hand cartridge pleated onto the shoulders. The doubled layered under sleeves are made of black and gold brocade and are lined in black cotton. Cuffs are edged with more of the same trim as the bodice. The inner sleeves attach to the bodice using small hidden loops and are laced black grosgrain ribbon, giving the wearer of this gown the option of only wearing the great sleeves on hot days.

The overskirt is hand cartridge pleated into the waist band. With a circumference of 165". The fore-panel is made from the same black and gold brocade as the sleeves and is backed by heavy cotton canvas.
